So I am participating in a challenge hosted by Roof Beam Reader.
The Goal: To finally read 12 books from your “to be read” pile (within 12 months).
The rules are simple:
Each of these 12 books must have been on your bookshelf or “To Be Read” list for AT LEAST one full year. This means the book cannot have a publication date of 1/1/2014 or later (any book published in the year 2013 or earlier qualifies, as long as it has been on your TBR pile – I WILL be checking publication dates). Caveat: Two (2) alternates are allowed, just in case one or two of the books end up in the “can’t get through” pile.
This is an awesome challenge because I have tons of books on my TBR list that have been there for a very, very long time. I will be keeping track of my progress throughout the year and posting reviews for the books I am reading. The best part is that everyone who completes their challenge will be enters to win a $50 gift card from Amazon or The Book Depository! If you are interested in joining the challenge as well, just head over to Roof Beam Reader!
Here are my books:
- Blue Asylum by Kathy Hepinstall (2012)
- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (1869)
- After Her by Joyce Maynard (2013)
- Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys (2011)
- True Colors by Kristin Hannah (2010)
- The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison (1970)
- Kindred by Octavia Butler (2004)
- Gap Creek by Robert Morgan (2012)
- How to be an American Housewife by Margaret Dilloway (2010)
- The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannette Walls (2005)
- The Opposite of Me by Sarah Pekkanen (2010)
- Windfallen by Jojo Moyes (2013)
Alternates:
- Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs (2011)
- Between Sisters by Kristin Hannah (2003)
I can't wait to actually make a dent in these books.
Are there any books you have been meaning to read for a long time, but haven't gotten to?
Are there any books you have been meaning to read for a long time, but haven't gotten to?
That sounds like a great challenge, and will be looking into participating as I need to find a new challenge for next year.
ReplyDeleteGreat Tamara! I hope you can join this one!
DeleteI love the idea of this challenge, but I'm not sure I could follow through! I'm a mood reader and I hate forcing myself to stick to a certain list, or something, which is I'm sure why I'm so behind on my TBR!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the challenge! =)
Thanks so much! I am usually bad with challenges too because I hate being forced into a box with my reading. But I figure one book per month won't be too bad.
DeleteThis is a really fun idea! I would probably make myself do it if it was a challenge... Now the question is, have 14 books been on my TBR long enough AND are intriguing enough for me to add them? I just may join in after I take a peek at my TBR. Great list, I hope you complete the challenge!
ReplyDeleteShannon @ It Starts At Midnight
Thanks Shannon! I don't know why these books have been on my TBR list for so long; I just distracted by something newer. Ha. Looking forward to clearing some of them off! :)
DeleteLittle Women is a good book and so is Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
ReplyDeleteThat is good to hear! Little Women is a classic that I have always wanted to read, especially since I loved the movie. And I have heard good things about Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
DeleteOh, I am soooooo in need of this! :-) Now, to make my list of books!
ReplyDeleteYes, do! Good luck with the challenge!
