Now I really hate to use the word never when it comes to reading books. Never say never, right? But chances are pretty high that these books will remain unread for me.
1. Moby Dick by Herman Melville - This one is just way too intimidating.
2. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy - Also way too intimidating.
3. Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin - Ugh, this series is way too long already and has no end in sight. I just don't have the time.
4. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling - Sorry, readers. Please don't hate me. But if I haven't read this one yet, chances are pretty good I'm not going to.
5. Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien - Nope, no interest AT ALL. I think this is one series I can safely say I will never read.
6. Heir by Kiera Cass - I read this series, but I thought it was just average. I had no strong feelings for the series one way or the other. I have zero interest in reading this one.
7. The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck - This one has been on my TBR list for so long and I just keep skipping over it.
9. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - saw the movie and loved it, but started the book and it was unbelievably boring. I told myself I would give it another chance one day, but I'm not holding out hope on that one.
10. anything else by John Green - I have read The Fault In Our Stars, Paper Towns, and Looking for Alaska and let me just say this: if you have read one John Green book, you have read them all. Any new books of his would have to majorly deviate from his others and I just don't see that happening.
Are there any books that you will (probably) never read?
Love that you've come back to this topic, it was a really interesting week to see books that people weren't going to read, rather than favourites. Agree with some of your choices, in face we've got some cross overs!

Thanks Rosy!
DeleteI sat next to someone on a plane once that was reading a Game of Thrones book- he had a pen and paper in hand and showed me the dictionary in the back, which was about thirty pages long. That alone has convinced me to never read the series.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that is crazy. Yeah, that cements it for me too.
DeleteYay this was one of my favorites. We share a few - War and Peace, GoT and Lord of the Rings were on my list as well! And while I LOVE me a John Green book you are very accurate in your description there- Great list!
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace!
DeleteAwesome question....not sure I could come up with ten, but War and Peace would be on my list. :)
ReplyDeleteI guess I would list any books by Stephen King. :) I would NEVER read another book of his. TOO SCARY!! :)
Thanks for another great Top Ten Tuesday.

Thanks Elizabeth! I have never read any Stephen King before. I have heard great things though.
DeleteI don't think I'll ever get around to Moby Dick as well; I love classic lit but the premise of that book doesn't entirely appeal to me. Great topic for this week's TTT!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
Thank you! Yeah, the premise for Moby Dick doesn't really work for ,e either. Ha
DeleteGame of Thrones is HUGE. A good friend of mine got me a copy on my birthday a few years ago, and I still haven't gotten past page one.
ReplyDeleteIt makes sense that you wouldn't read Harry Potter. I've read the first four and enjoyed them, but the rest of the books are intimidating me a bit.
I'm not sure about The Heir, either. Maybe when the series is completed, but at the moment I have no plans of reading it.
I understand the John Green thing as well! I've read TFIOS, Looking for Alaska and Will Grayson, and I didn't enjoy any of them.
Fabulous topic this week, Cynthia!
Aimee @ Deadly Darlings
Thanks Aimee! I can understand why you haven't read GOT yet. Every single book in that series is HUGE!
DeleteThis is a sad list! I'll try to forgive you for not reading some of my favorites. ;)
ReplyDeleteHowever, I agree with you on Game of Thrones... not happening.

Bahahah. Thanks Lois! I know there are several books on here that people love. I appreciate you understanding. :)
DeleteI read everything on your list, lol, except for Games of Thrones, which I probably won't :))) I don't like the Russians, though. Turgenev, Dostoyevski, Pushkin. They're tough. Not big on Anthony Burgess either, although hubby loves him and we've got all his books. Yeah, there are quite a few books I won't read. For instance I have yet to try an NA, and I doubt I will. This is such a fun topic, Cynthia!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ramona!
DeleteI didn't make a list this week--too hectic here-- but I agree with most of your choices.
ReplyDeleteI did read Moby Dick in school, or maybe part of it..don't remember finishing it, I do remember not enjoying it in the least. I am one of those who says she wants to read GoT or watch it but just doesn't, so I don't think I am motivated enough. I read The Host and it was actually pretty good, because I enjoy fantasy/sci-fi/dystopia occasionally (didn't read Twilight). I read first two Harry Potters with my son, reading aloud but that's it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here.
Thanks Rita!
DeleteNice list of books!!
ReplyDeleteHere's the link to my Top Ten Tuesday post for this week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2015/05/top-ten-tuesday-sexy-male-characters-in.html
Thanks Captivated Reader!
DeleteKeep an open mind about the Harry Potter books. I read them a few years ago and fell in love with them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kwizgiver. There is always a chance I will read them some day. Never say never, right? :)
DeleteI haven't read HP books either, but I think I want to someday. War and Peace is just ridiculously long. Lol.
ReplyDeleteYes, Joy, way too long. There is always a chance I will read Harry Potter some day. Never say never, right? :)
DeleteI'll never read The Selection series. I've heard it be compared too many times to The Bachelor and that really does NOT make me want to read it. The Dragon Tattoo book was super hard at first. I don't know why he made the first 50 pages or so SO boring and bland. It gets really good after that. Exciting and terrifying at the same time. Never say never about HP, I'm reading it to my son now... you might have kids or nieces or nephews who beg you to read it to them :)
ReplyDeleteYes Michelle, The Selection was basically The Bachelor. I hate that show too, so I am not really sure what I expected to get out of the series. And I am sure you are right about Harry Potter. I don't have kids (yet), but who knows what will happen when I do. :)
DeleteInteresting list! I agree with you on the first three -- too long and intimidating. TOTALLY disagree with you on HP. They are MUST READS. The books are long, but they're very entertaining. Totally worth the time. I feel the same way about LOTR. THE HOST wasn't terrible, but it can be skipped. As for John Green, I've only read TFIOS, but I'm definitely interested in his others.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my TTT!
Susan, yes that is what everyone says about HP: that it is a must read. But never say never. Who knows what will happen in the future? :) John Green's other books aren't bad. The only problem is they start sounding the same and having basically the same storyline. It's kind of annoying.
DeleteA LOT of these were on my list too! Dragon Tattoo (well, the next two in the series- the first one was the epitome of boring), Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings. And the rest of them I likely won't be reading either. Actually, the only one I would kind of consider is The Heir, only because I haven't read the rest of the books yet, so I can't say.
ReplyDeleteI did LOVE The Host though. LOVE. Oh, and I would probably end up reading John Green again BUT I do definitely want some new, fresh ideas! Fabulous list!
Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight
Thanks Shannon! Yeah, the only way I would read John Green is if he had an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT plot. He needs new ideas!
