This is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. They feature a different top ten list every week. This week's topic is about favorites. By this point, I have told you guys my favorites in so many categories (all time favorites, WWII history favorites, favorite sad books, dystopian favorites, etc.). This week, I will talk about my favorites in a rarely talked about category: nonfiction.
I'll admit that I don't read nonfiction that often. More often than not, I find it dry and boring. But I do try to branch out every once in a while and I have found some nonfiction books that I love. Some are funny, some are serious, but all are amazing.
Do you read nonfiction very often? Have you read any of these? What are a few of your favorite nonfiction reads?
I've only read the Diary of Anna Frank. That must be remedied, because the others on your list look very interesting too! Like Only in Naples and Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy!
ReplyDeleteGreat list!
Jolien, thanks so much! They are all amazing books. You should read them for sure.
DeleteI used to read more non fiction, especially histories (American or European) but not so much these days. Only In Naples looks good (food lol) and I used to watch Chelsea Handler- i'll bet her book is funny.
ReplyDeleteGreg, oh yes the food! That is what attracted me to the Only in Naples book too. I am addicted to books about food . . . mainly it's because I am addicted to food. Ha. And yes, Chelsea Handler's book is hilarious. Her show was funny, I agree. If you loved her show, you will love her book.
DeleteI don't read a lot of non-fic at allllll. AREN'T I BAD?!? I do read a few memoirs now and then though...like my favourite is Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson.😂 It was hilarious and perfect omg. And I would like to read the Diary of Anne Frank eventually!! I actually feel bad that I haven't already. Erk. What is my life. What are my choices.
ReplyDeleteCait, no of course you aren't bad! I kind of have to force myself to read some nonfiction sometimes because I just love fiction so darn much. Luckily, I have read some pretty good ones. And I just read the premise for Furiously Happy and it sounds all kinds of amazing. I need to add that one to my TBR ASAP!
DeleteI loved My Horizontal Life and Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me. Both were so funny. I remember reading The Diary of a Young Girl and school and it really making an impact on me. I need to look into some of the others! Great list!
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace! Chelsea Handler and Mindy Kaling are both very funny and very talented women. I would probably watch anything they're in or read anything they write. It's all gold.
DeleteI don't read a lot of non-fiction, but I did LOVE Mindy Kaling's 'Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me'! I have her second book on my shelf waiting to be read :) Thanks for the recommendations!
ReplyDeleteLindsey, I also need to read her second book. I am sure it's awesome!
DeleteI've not read any of these. I think the last non-fic I read was that Donald Trump asshole book. :/ I do want to read Malala soon, though.
ReplyDeleteJoy, oh man ME TOO! I need to read another nonfiction soon to wash that taste out of my mouth. Ha. I am Malala is a great one!
DeleteI don't read a lot of non-fiction, but these all look so good!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT!
Happy Reading! :)
Thanks!
DeleteI don't read as much non fiction as I should. I did read We Should All be Feminists a few months ago. It was really interesting. I read it after seeing Mindy Kaling recommend it on the Today Show! I should read her books too. Great list!
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten
Lori, that is so cool that Mindy Kaling recommended We Should All Be Feminists! If you are a fan of hers, you will definitely love her books.
DeleteGreat List! I've only read My Horizontal Life, and The Diary of A Young Girl. Both are great! I really want to start reading more non fiction books again, so I will be checking these out! Thanks for all of the recommendations :D My Top Ten Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Giovanna!
DeleteWow, I read a lot of nonfiction, but I haven't read most of these titles. I think I tend to read more historical nonfiction - Erik Larson is a personal favourite - or travel nonfiction - like Bill Bryson. Lots of great titles here, though!
ReplyDeleteJane, I love historical nonfiction. I need to check out those authors you mentioned!
DeleteLots of good looking books--off to see which ones I should read.

I hope you love them Hopewell!
DeleteI've only read two of these...but I'm really looking forward to Liar Temptress Soldier Spy! :)
ReplyDeleteLauren, I loved Liar Temptress Soldier Spy. I don't read enough books about the Civil War, but I am fascinated by that time period.
DeleteI am not a big nonfiction reader either, and I have to admit that I have not read any of these books but The Diary of Anne Frank is on my TBR, and The Reading Promise looks quite interesting and intriguing.
ReplyDeleteYou can visit my TTT at: https://kellyfbarr.com/2016/09/13/top-ten-tuesday-29/
Kelly, The Reading Promise is wonderful. Who doesn't love a book about someone who loves books??
DeleteYes to the Diary of A Young Girl!! I actually read that pretty recently, I think earlier this year? Also if you are an introvert, I would recommend Quiet by Susan Cain, which I feel like I have recommended to you before? But oh well doing it again!
ReplyDeleteValerie, I read Diary of a Young Girl pretty recently too! I can't believe that I had never read it before, especially since I love WWII so much. I don't know that you have recommended Quiet to me before, but I will definitely be checking it out now. Thank you!
DeleteI love nonfiction books!! I read read nonfiction frequently. I'm currently listening to the audio version of The Secret History of Wonder Woman by Jill Lepore, which talks about the creator of Wonder Woman and feminism of all things.
ReplyDeleteEarlier this year, I read I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai, The Common Secret: My Journey As An Abortion Doctor by Susan Wicklund, Stoned: Jewelry, Obsession, and How Desire Shapes the World by Aja Raden, My Life On The Road by Gloria Steinem, & The Assassination of the Archduke by Greg King & Sue Woolmans... All of which were really good reads.
I loved reading Maya Angelou's book I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings and Anne Frank's Diary too.
Wow, so many interesting recommendations! I will be checking these out for sure. The Common Secret sounds really interesting.
DeleteI haven't read any nonfiction but I have a few on my list that I really want to try. Like #Girlboss and Big Magic.
