Top Ten Tuesday - The one with the mixed bag

This is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. They feature a different top ten list every week. This week's topic is supposed to be favorite books in a specific setting. Well, my settings are kind of all over the place. I decided to do a mixture: these are my favorite books set in a dystopian environment and top books set in outer space. How's that for variety?

1. The Cage by Megan Shepherd

2. The Book of the Unnamed Midwife by Meg Ellison

3. On The Edge of Gone by Corinne Duyvis

4. Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

5. Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion

6. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

7. The Last One by Alexandra Oliva

8. The entire Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer

9. Until the End by Tracey Ward

10. Return Once More by Trisha Leigh

What are some of your favorite dystopian books? Have you read many books set in outer space?

    1. Thank you! I was pleasantly surprised by The Cage. I won a copy and wasn't sure about it, but it was recommended to me. It was really good!

    1. Thanks so much! And wouldn't you believe that I remembered The Martian AFTER I had done my graphics for this post? And since I was too lazy to make another one, I just left it off. But I did love it. :)

  4. Love how you chose to blend two favorite settings! :) I've only read one from your list (Hunger Games) but there are two others that have been on my TBR for quite a while and that I really want to read soon: Cinder and Return Once More. The synopsis for Return Once More has me so excited to pick it up!

    Here's MY TTT POST.

  5. I love The Hunger Games! I read Cinder and I wasn't keen but I've been told TLC gets better, so I've got Scarlet and I'm going to try that and see if I like it more.

  6. I love the mixed bag idea! Strict confinements are unnecessary. :) Illuminae is so great! I also really enjoyed Megan Shepherd's The Madman's Daughter, so perhaps I need to finally check out The Cage!

  7. The Hunger Games and Cinder are both such great series! And I want to read Return Once More. I don't read many dystopian books but I did enjoy The Last Princess. As far as space, I loved Starflight and the Across The Universe trilogy too! Great list, it was a fun way to mix up the topic :)

  8. It's been a while since I've read a dystopian novel. I can't even remember which one. I think the last book I've read that's set in space was Seveneves by Neal Stephenson. And it was sort labour of love since it was a massive book. Great list, though!

    1. Thanks Joy! I don't why I am so attracted to dystopian novels. But I will say that the genre has gotten a little old so it does take new ideas to interest me now.

  9. Favorite dystopia: Unwound series by Neal Shusterman. And Brian K. Vaughan's graphic novel series Saga is an excellent outer space story.

  10. The Hunger Games will be probably for ever my number one dystopian novel, after all this is the one that opened me this genre.

  11. I've only read 3 of these! GASP. I feel like I'm failing hahaha. And I have read a lot of dystopians, but obviously not the same ones as you.😂 I have just ordered The Edge of Gone though and I'm so so keen for it! I've had it highly recommended. :D I also love The Giver for dystopian (the world is just so so interesting omg) and Blood Red Road because it's all dusty apocalypse and feels like Mad Max Fury Road in YA book form. WINNING.

    1. Cait, oh man you need to read the others for sure! Oh yes, The Giver is really good. I can't believe I forgot that one. I need to check out Blood Red Road. It sounds awesome!

  12. Hahah my TTT was also about books set in space! Also I need to get to Return Once More asap. I don't know if that's a space one or dystopian, but either way I think I would love it!

    1. Valerie, books set in space are awesome! Return Once More is kind of a space/dystopian one and it is so good. Yes, you must read it soon!

  13. Oh man, although I really like the books you have featured that I've read, I don't think I would want to live in any of those worlds. Zombies, Hunger Games, Levana, Spae Ship Battles??? No thanks haha :)

    1. Nereyda, you are so right. Maybe I like reading them so much because the scenarios seem so crazy. But zombies could happen, right? :)
