Top Ten Tuesday - Books I can't believe I haven't read!

This is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. They feature a different top ten list every week. This week's topic is top ten books I can't believe I haven't read. Most of these are classics and they are on my TBR (and have been for a while). Why are classics the hardest books to read?

1. The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling - To be honest, I am not sure if I will read this one. The premise has never really hooked me. But I am trying to branch out of my comfort zone. And I keep hearing amazing things!

2. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

3. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

4. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

5. Emma by Jane Austen

6. The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison

7. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain

8. The last two books of the MaddAddam series by Margaret Atwood

9. The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer

10. Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

Have you read any of these books? Which ones should I start with? Is there a book you can't believe you haven't read?

  1. I always find classics the most impossible books to read as well. It's always so hard to get motivated to read them! The Lunar Chronicles series is on my TTT as well, everyone seems to love them!

  4. I think I've read everything on your list except Great Expectations, and that's on my list this week! I still need to read the final book in the Atwood series, although to be honest, I'm really not sure if I'm interested at this point. But Harry Potter? A must read!!! Great list -- I hope you get to some of these and find out that you really enjoy them. :)

  5. I haven't read many of these eithers, especially the classics. I think being forced to read classics in high school ruined them for me.

Cinder was fabulous. I haven't made it all the way through Scarlet yet, but I am liking that one too.

Thanks for visiting The Book Connection.

  7. We have many of the same reading "holes." I haven't read Harry Potter or Jane Eyre, either. Nor Fahrenheit 451 or anything by Mark Twain. I read Great Expectations in high school and enjoyed it. I've been meaning to read another Dickens since. And I adore Sense and Sensibility!

  8. So many great classics! I too have not read the Harry Potter series! I really am hoping that you get to read the Lunar Chronicles before you dive into the Potter series though! Ha ha! :P

    1. Claudia, finally someone else who hasn't read Harry Potter! Ha. And yes, I will read Lunar Chronicles before Harry Potter. I have Cinder on my Kindle now. I can't wait to dig into it!

    2. I do want to forewarn you! I had to push through Cinder as it was predictable and a bit slow in pacing, BUT! Once you finish Cinder and pick up Scarlet and Cress, you won't regret it!

    3. Thanks for the heads up Claudia. I will keep that in mind. :)

  11. Such a great list, I have not read many on your list. I did read the first three books in the HP series, which are fun reads for me. I have Cinder but haven't gotten around to reading it. I need to read some of those classics on your list!! :D

    1. Anna, yeah the classics are just not as exciting as the newer releases. I do feel I should read them at least once though. :)

  13. A lot of classics on here! I'm sure you've been told a billion and one times that you really should read Harry Potter. Now you've been told a billion and two times. :)

Ditto to The Lunar Chronicles and Fahrenheit 451 and Sense and Sensibility.

  14. I have to admit... I did faint a little bit when I saw that you haven't read the Harry Potter books. That's a book I do not expect people to not have read... Though I understand. For me, and many others, this was a big part of my childhood. There is just something about that, I think, that the things you loved in your childhood you kind of take for granted that everyone else loved too. Such as I realized just the other day that one of my friends had never watched Hercules, the Disney movie and that blew my mind...

    1. Cecilie, yeah I think most people are surprised by that one. I am in the minority for sure. I would like to read the first one at least to see if I would be interested in the rest and to see what all the fuss is about. I love Disney movies so it is surprising that some people haven't seen Hercules. Of course, I wasn't a huge fan of that particular one.

  16. Thanks to majoring in English Lit in college I've actually read a lot of these. :D Love Jane Austen! P&P and Persuasion are my favorite but the ones you've listed are great as well. The Bluest Eye and Jane Eyre are amazing. I adore the Lunar Chronicles SO much!
And don't feel bad, I haven't read Harry Potter either. :P

  18. I... did not like Harry Potter. I read the first book, and was so bored, I basically forced myself to finish. No way am I reading however many more books (6?) there are. Pass. Jane Eyre is not my cup of tea. At all. I "read" it in high school, which is to say, I went to the bookstore and bought the CliffsNotes. I did try to read it first, but I guess I DNFed before I knew what that was ;)

I did really enjoy Cinder, though I haven't gotten to Scarlet yet. I'd like to read Fahrenheit 451 some day too. Lovely list, I hope you get to them all ASAP!

    1. Thanks Shannon! I can't believe there is someone out there who doesn't like Harry Potter. :) I did start the first movie and I was bored just a few minutes in, which is probably why I never read them. I would like to at least read the first one so I can see what all the fuss is about.

  19. GO READ HARRY POTTER, NOW, GO! It's so good, I'm sure you will enjoy it once you read it all.

Cinder & the rest of this series is on my TBR short list aka the list of books that I hope to get to this year yet, I will probably get around to read it closer to Winter released 'cause I can't deal with the wait for another series to finish publishing.

  20. I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU HAVEN'T READ HARRY POTTER!! I bet everyone has said some version of that, LOL. But that's only b/c it's TRUE. *nods emphatically* Emma is a favorite of mine also, but Toni Morrison and anything by a Bronte, I say you're better off without, and you already know how I feel about the Lunar Chronicles ;)

    1. Haha Jessica, yes everyone has said similar versions of that very statement. Yes I do believe I will give the series a shot. I can't wait to read the others on my list as well. So glad you loved Emma. That is on my short list for this year. :)

  21. Harry Potter is such an important pop culture read. It wasn't until about a year ago that I read and watched all the books/movies and finally got what everyone else was talking about.
