This was me on Tuesday after news broke of the upcoming sequel for To Kill A Mockingbird.
And this . . .
I have preordered Go Set A Watchman from Amazon so this will be me on July 14 . . .
I sense a reread in my future . . . or perhaps a new listen? Remember my post on my struggle with audiobooks? Lisa from Bookshelf Fantasies had the brilliant idea to introduce myself to audio books again with a reread. Then I found out the audio version of To Kill A Mockingbird is narrated by Sissy Spacek. Yes please!
Were you as happy as I was about the upcoming sequel?
So exciting!
ReplyDeleteYes it really is!
DeleteI've never read it so no. I actually forgot about the announcement but I was on tumblr the other day and I saw a post with tweets on how the sequel was so long from the first one. So they were finding a little humor in the release. I hope it's really good for you.
ReplyDeleteOh I can't believe you have never read it Adriana. It is a really good book! Thanks. :)
DeleteYes, yes, yes, I squealed with delight.
ReplyDeleteThen someone asked me if I'd heard that Harper Lee hadn't wanted it released. It's like when the newest biography of Lee came out last year--was it authorized or was it not? I just can't tell. Is Lee suffering from dementia and trusting people she shouldn't or is she perfectly lucid and deciding it's time to release this to the world? The whole thing makes me cautiously ecstatic.
I've loved learning the story of how To Kill a Mockingbird was lifted from the original text and expanded to make the book we love today. The editor who asked for that deserves some sort of award!!
Carrie, yes you are so right. It is hard to know for sure whether Harper Lee actually understands and wants this published or not. I really hope she is not being taken advantage of. I can't believe this book has been sitting around for more than 50 years. I hope it's an awesome book!
DeleteI too danced in my chair a bit when I stumbled on this announcement! I'm apprehensive and excited at the same time though, to be honest :P
ReplyDeleteYes I know, me too!! Not sure whether to be more excited or scared. I am choosing the excitement side! Ha
DeleteHahha! I hope it won't be a disappointment. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope so too Joyous Reads!
DeleteI don't know how I feel about this!! TKM was so good, but it does not need a sequel!! :0 I will fear for the worst and hopefully be surprised.
ReplyDeleteI know, Rachel. I really hope it's not a disappointment!
DeleteI was kind of shocked and surprised by the news really! I loved To Kill A Mockingbird, but I never thought Harper Lee would ever publish another novel. Part of me wants to read To Kill A Mockingbird again before her new novel is released and then read the new book... But what if the new novel is a big let down???
ReplyDeleteCaptivated Reader, ahhh I know what you are saying. I am kind of scared to read the new book too because of how much I loved To Kill A Mockingbird. I am trying to be optimistic though.
DeleteYES THIS IS VERY EXCITING! I haven't read To Kill A Mockingbird, but it' for required reading this year so I'll defs be getting to it soon.
ReplyDeleteGreat Melanie! I can't wait for the release either!
DeleteSo excitedD:DDD I loved the book and the movie so much:D
ReplyDeleteYay!!!!! So excited that you are excited. :) But the weird thing is that I have never seen the movie! I must do that too.
DeleteI just heard about this or two days ago! It's pretty cool, although I have yet to read the first book. I know I know...stop staring
ReplyDeleteHaha, no judgments here Lola Reviewer. There are tons of classics others have read that I haven't. But this is a great opportunity for you to read it!
DeleteI AM SO EXCITED FOR GO SET A WATCHMAN! I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite book, and I was so disappointed when I learned that Harper Lee hadn't written any other books. I never thought I would get another book from her, much less a sequel to TKAM. I know there's a ton of people that are raising doubts about this book, but I don't want to let them ruin my excitement.
ReplyDeleteAna, oh yes I almost let the pessimistic people online make me lose my buzz over this book. Not going to happen people!
DeleteI loved To Kill A Mocking Bird but I definitely need a reread too. And I'm another who uses audiobooks for rereads, I think they work perfectly for that. Love the gifs!
ReplyDeleteThanks Trish! I am excited about giving it a listen. And yes, now is the perfect time for a reread. :)
Deletelol - glad you're so excited. I'm looking forward to it too.
ReplyDeleteYes, Christy. Very, very excited!
DeleteI am over the moon excited too! I love to Kill A Mockingbird and have re-read it so many times. Squee. Love the gifs
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so glad I am not the only super excited one! Thanks Kimba!
