Friday Memes

Friday Finds is a weekly meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading, where we show off books we recently added to our TBR list or books we recently purchased, borrowed, etc.

So I won a book in my very first giveaway! I won The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall.

Synopsis: Avery West's newfound family can shut down Prada when they want to shop in peace, and can just as easily order a bombing when they want to start a war. Part of a powerful and dangerous secret society called the Circle, they believe Avery is the key to an ancient prophecy. Some want to use her as a pawn. Some want her dead. To unravel the mystery putting her life in danger, Avery must follow a trail of clues from the monuments of Paris to the back alleys of Istanbul with two boys who work for the Circle—beautiful, volatile Stellan and mysterious, magnetic Jack. But as the clues expose a stunning conspiracy that might plunge the world into World War 3, she discovers that both boys are hiding secrets of their own. Now she will have to choose not only between freedom and family--but between the boy who might help her save the world, and the one she's falling in love with.

I have seen great reviews for this one from some of my fellow bloggers so I am excited to read it!

Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice. Here are the rules:

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it)
*Post it.

I just finished Only Ever Yours by Louise O'Neill. I finished it the same day I started it. It was amazing and I will push this book onto everyone for the rest of the year, I am sure. I received the ARC from NetGalley. The publication date is scheduled for May 12, 2015. I will be publishing a review closer to the publication date

Synopsis: Where women are created for the pleasure of men, beauty is the first duty of every girl. In Louise O'Neill's world of Only Every Yours women are no longer born naturally, girls (called "eves") are raised in Schools and trained in the arts of pleasing men until they come of age. Freida and Isabel are best friends. Now, aged sixteen and in their final year, they expect to be selected as companions--wives to powerful men. All they have to do is ensure they stay in the top ten beautiful girls in their year. The alternatives--life as a concubine, or a chastity (teaching endless generations of girls)--are too horrible to contemplate. But as the intensity of final year takes hold, the pressure to be perfect mounts. Isabel starts to self-destruct, putting her beauty--her only asset--in peril. And then into this sealed female environment, the boys arrive, eager to choose a bride. Freida must fight for her future--even if it means betraying the only friend, the only love, she has ever known.

"I should leave, but just for a moment I want to stay in here. I want to hide, fold into the shadows and become invisible so no one can look at me anymore."

I received the ARC from NetGalley. The publication date is scheduled for May 12, 2015. I will be publishing a review closer to the publication date.

Have you got any new books this week?

  1. I love the sound of Only Ever Yours but like . . . I kind of feel that topic has been done to death lately. For once I'd like to read about a society where men are created for the pleasure of women LOL
