First book of the year!

Happy New Year!!!! Can you believe that it's 2016?!?

Join Sheila from Book Journey along with some fellow book bloggers as we feature our first book read in 2016.

For me, the first book sets the tone for the rest of the year. I have chosen Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.
How beautiful is that cover?? That may or may not have been the primary reason I decided to purchase the hardcover version of this book instead of the ebook version. Well, that and the fact that the unusual format makes for a better physical copy.

I started this book yesterday and HOLY CRAP!! I stayed up past 5:00am this morning. I admit that part of the reason for that was watching the Alabama vs. Michigan State game (Roll Tide!)  but 75% of the reason why I couldn't go to bed was THIS BOOK!!! Worth. The. Hype.
I am feeling ALL THE FEELS!! I was reading during commercials and during halftime and I hated to turn away from this book when the game came back on.

I picked a hell of a book to start the new year on. And I may or may not have been reading when the clock struck midnight. Poetic, huh? Don't worry, I did stop (briefly) to kiss my husband and watch some amazing Italian fireworks outside my door.

What will your first book of the year be?

  1. Sounds like a great start to the year. Love it when a book won't let you sleep (if you can sleep in the next day!). Have a good 2016.

    1. Thanks Emma! Yeah, this would have been murder if I had to work on New Year's Day. Luckily, there were no obligations so I didn't mind (too much) that it was keeping me up.

  2. Wow I really need to get my hands on a copy of this book! My first book of the year is Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson, a Peter Pan retelling. So far I'm loving it ^^

  7. I've been hearing amazing things about this book! Glad to hear it's worth the hype. I love the reasons why you bought it instead of going with an ebook. The main thing I dislike about ebooks is not getting to see all the pretty covers. The Alabama/Michigan State game was just painful! I'm an Auburn fan myself (War Eagle) so I didn't have a dog in that fight but I have family who are fans of both so I wanted Michigan State to at least get on the board!

    1. Katherine, oh it is definitely worth the hype!! Ha, my husband was an Alabama fan until he went to Auburn. Now, he actually just roots for whatever team is doing better. I am a GA fan (and you know how their season went), so I root for Alabama out of solidarity. I was surprised that Michigan was shut out completely. It was crazy!

  12. The exciting reviews and it being on so many Top lists makes me want to give this one a try. I don't usually do hype books out of my genre choices gut I am considering this one. Sounds like a fun way to bring in the New Year.
